Environmental Management

Approach to Environmental Management

The NIPPN Group is engaged in food-related business activities, benefiting from the bounty of the earth. Mindful that our business activities impact the environment, we aim to achieve harmony between people and the environment, and contribute to the realization of a sustainable society.

Environmental Policy

NIPPN established its specific approach to environmental management as its "Environmental Policy" in April 2000. In January 2021, we revised the "Environmental Policy" in light of changes in the global environment and the circumstances surrounding our company.

Environmental Management Promotion System

Environmental issues related to the NIPPN Group's business are appropriately managed and addressed by the "Environmental Subcommittee," established under the "Sustainability Execution Committee." Furthermore, important decisions on environmental issues related to the management of the entire group are made by the Board of Directors.

The Environmental Subcommittee is chaired by the director in charge of environmental issues, and a system have been established to address environmental issues surrounding our business, including our group companies, with the "Environmental Subcommittee" as a leader.

For our group's overall sustainability, including environmental issues, we have a "Sustainability Committee," which discusses and decides on important matters such as activity policies and materiality, and a "Sustainability Execution Committee," which implements sustainability-related matters based on these policies. Both committees are chaired by the Representative Director, President and C.E.O. and are organized to unify the entire company from the top management.

Environmental Education

In order to make our employees aware of our environmental preservation activities, we provide environmental education as part of the initial training for new employees.

In addition, study sessions and internal auditor training sessions were held at the Technical Centers, branches, plants and mills in accordance with ISO 14001 education and training. We will continue to hold workshops and study sessions for continuous improvement of environmental ISO.

Environmental Risk Management

Environmental Audits

NIPPN conducts environmental audits to ascertain the status of implementation and achievement of environmental policy and targets, compliance with laws and regulations, and other environmental activities, and to ensure the smooth operation of the environmental management system.

Compliance with Environmental Laws and Regulations

In FY 2023, an internal audit of ISO 14001 was conducted to check the compliance with environmental laws and regulations, and while there were some issues that were pointed out, they were all minor and promptly addressed. We will continue to ensure that these issues are addressed in FY2024.
